About the memorial: The monument takes the form of a three sided colonnade in the style of the Parthenon, with 12 doric columns supporting a entablature. The base contains catacombs and is sloped to accommodate the gradient of the hill. This monument to Scottish troops who died in the Napoleonic wars was designed by C.R. Cockrell and W.H. Playfair and built 1826-29.
