About the memorial:
The Memorial was built in the late 1960s at the Penhill RBL building from funds raised by the members of Penhill RBL. It was built primarily for the Poppy Day Remembrance Service in November, but also for anyone who wished to use it as a memorial to any member of the Armed Forces. It stood on this site respected and undamaged in any way until the RBL club closed and the land was returned to Council control in 2013. The Council would not adopt the Memorial and it was clear if the Memorial was not moved it would be demolished. The Penhill Branch of the RBL secured help from The War Memorials Trust and the RBL and St Peters Church offered to site the Memorial in their grounds so in August 2013 The Memorial was moved, restored and placed in its new home at St Peters Church in Penhill.
