About the memorial: Celtic cross on tall octagonal pillar, pedestal and 4 stage octagonal base. The WW1 names are carved on each of the eight sides of the pedestal and the WW2 names on 5 of the 8 sides of the top base level- the other 3 sides are additional WW1 names. There is a wreath carved at the bottom of the column, and there is a pattern carved on the front of the column and cross. It was originally at Bigholm Hill, Beith. From The Scotsman Monday 8th November 1920- BEITH- In presence of a large gathering the Beith War Memorial was unveiled on Saturday by Lieutenant-General Sir Aylmer Hunter-Weston, M.P. for Bute and North Ayrshire. The memorial, which takes the form of a Celtic cross, is erected on a commanding site on the Bigholm Hill, overlooking the town, and on the panels are inscribed the names of 172 Beith men who fell in the war.
