About the memorial: Created in 'Duddingston stone' by the sculptor William Birnie Rhind and unveiled on the 30th April 1922, it consists of a 7ft tall soldier in the uniform of the Royal Scots atop a 9 foot high pedestal. The front of the pedestal contains the dedication and the remaining three sides the list of 143 WW1 war dead in alphabetical order. A sloping tablet has been added at the front with the names of 40 servicemen killed in WW2.
