About the memorial: Angel figure dedicated to those from Luton who lost their lives during the First and Second World War. Historic England listing entry - Memorial of Portland Stone erected in 1922 to the design of Sir Reginald Blomfield. Stepped plinth with added cast bronze panels commemorating the dead of the Second World War. The body of the monument is inscribed on four sides with the names of 1286 dead of the First War. Surmounted by cornice and frieze of tryglyphs and metopes with decoration of roundels. Above is a podium decorated with the town's coat of arms and wreaths. On the podium is an 8 feet high bronze statue of 'Peace' sculpted by Sir Hamo Thorneycroft. The statue carries a myrtle branch held aloft in her right hand and an angel holding a wreath in her left hand. Designer: Sir Reginald Blomfield

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
