About the memorial: Plain rectangular inscription tablet mounted within an ornate frame. Two figures of soldiers flank the inscription and a semi-circular tablet surmounts the whole flags, buildings, cannons and cannon balls carved in relief on the semi-circular tablet with a coat of arms in their middle

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

Sacred to the memory of Major-General Sir john Campbell, Bart (named for the honour of KCB had he survived) who fell at the head of his Brigade in launching it to the Assault at Sevastopol 18 June 1855 This Tablet has been raised by the Officers, NCO's and Soldiers of the 38th Regiment, in which he served for 33 years and commanded for 14 years as Testimony of their Respect, and their Sincere Affection and Esteem. His body lies in the cemetery on Cathcart's Hill, near Sevastopol.
