To the glory of God and in loving memory of Lieutenant Douglas Woulfe Hay M.C. Middlesex Regt. only son of Lieut. Colonel H.T.H. Hay late Indian Army and Mary Margaret his wife. Killed in action whilst leading his platoon at Villers Guislain near Cambrai in France on September 29th 1918 aged 21 years. 'Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends'.
