About the memorial: Unpolished grey granite cross, roughly finished with smooth banding around edges, carved with dates 1914 and 1918 in relief, with inset polished pink granite orb. Pedestal formed of four levels of unpolished grey granite, roughly finished with smooth banding around edges. Set into pedestal is polished pink granite scroll with inscription engraved and painted black. Rests on elevated concrete base surrounded by stepped concrete access path. Leaning against base is polished pink granite plaque with inscription engraved and painted black. Situated within a roughly triangular wooded enclosure bounded on south side by cast iron railings painted black, set into low flagstone rubble boundary wall capped with cement. To north, east and west flagstone boundary wall capped with cement. Access from road via concrete steps and path from southern corner of enclosure. For both wars the information given for each casualty is name, rank, regiment, home address on the island and date of death. The images are not quite sharp enough to transcribe this data fully below. Entitled Isles of Rousay and Egilsay by the IWM Register, though the Isle of Egilsay has its own entry.
