About the memorial: The Field Marshall died in his bed aged 81 so technically this could be said not to be a war memorial. However, the inscription on the memorial, and the biography in the attached Link, are an encapsulation both of the career of a Victorian imperial soldier and of the history of warfare in the period. The memorial is in the north transept of the church. The inscription is hard to read in the photograph so I have transcribed it under the Names tab. In addition to the campaigns mentioned in the memorial, he served as commander of British forces in Canada 1865-7 and as C-in-C of Ireland 1875-80. The East window of the church is a memorial to his father General Sir John Michel (1765-1844) but gives no campaign details though the general presumably fought agaiinst the French between 1793 and 1815..
