About the memorial: Two tablets are now in the church of St Lawrence and All Saints. Several of the casualties are named on both memorials. This memorial is the upper one for St Lawrence and All Saints. It is in its originl position. The lower one is WMO/135958. It was put into its present position in 2012 after the Congregational Chapel was sold as a private house.

STEEPLE ORGAN AND WAR MEMORIAL.— The Bishop of Barking visited Steeple on Saturday (16 September 1922) to  dedicate the new organ at the church, and unveil and dedicate the tablet which had been placed on the wall the church to the memory  of the seven parishioners of Steeple who fell in the Great War. There was a large congregation and the service was most impressive. The Bishop first dedicated the organ, which came from Burnham church. “Onward. Christian soldiers”" was sung as a processional hymn. The lesson (Wisdom iii., 1-6) was read by the Rev. Herbert Brown, rector of St. Lawrence, after which the Bishop unveiled and  dedicated the memorial. This is of Sicilian marble, with black marble background, and the work of Messrs. Wray and Fuller, Chelmsford. An impressive sermon was preached by the Bishop on the connection between praise and sacrifice. While a collection was being taken for the Memorial Fund, the hymn, "For all the Saints," was sung, and a contingent of Boy Scouts from Southrninster, under Mr. Sidney C. Payne, then sounded  the “Last Post." After the National Anthem, they sounded the "General Salute." “ 0 God, our help  in ages past," was sung as a recessional hymn. The pulpit was draped with Union Jack.(Chelmsford Chronicle - Friday 22 September 1922)
