About the memorial: Churchyard cross in memory of Lieut. J. H. Samler, R.N.,. Lieut. Samler was the son of the Rector of Southstoke, the Rev. W.H.S. Samler. In his “Brief Description of Southstoke,” the Rev. Samler said: “The cross is a pattern of an old Somerset Churchyard Cross. The shaft is octagonal rising from an octagonal base, and is surmounted by canopied niches, at each corner of which rise four crocketed pinnacles. Carved in high relief, on the back of the niche facing east, the Crucifixion, on that facing west the figure of St. James the Great to whom the church is dedicated.”

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.
