Sacred to the memory of / Hubert Faunce de Laune / 3rd son of C. de L. Faunce de Laune / of Sharsted Court in this parish / On the outbreak of the Boer War, he joined the / Duke of Cambridge's Own Special Corps 13th Imperial Yeomanry / and was killed at the Battle of Lindley 30th May 1900. // He was interred omn the battle field at / Quaycafontn Farm, outside Lindley, Orange River Colony / aged 25 years . / 'Greater love hath no manthan this, that a / man lay down his life for his friends,' / St John XV, 13 / This tablet was erected / by his two brothers.
