About the memorial: St Luke's closed in 1990, and reopened as specialist residential care facility.Prior to its closure it held a number of linked Great War Memorial items. The following is an extract from a History of St. Luke's Church between 1859 and 1986. The Church is entered by the South West door in St Luke's Place. In the entrance a white marble tablet has been fixed which reads :- 'erected to the glory of God and in ever loving memory of the men of this congregation who fell in the Great War 1914-1918, the peal of bells was installed and a Memorial window inserted' THEY LIVE FOR EVERMORE. Some 50 names of the fallen were either recorded within the Stained Glass Window or on plaques underneath. Currently there is no evidence of any memorial items on site. A list of the fallen is recorded in a booklet ,'St Luke's Parish Church,1859-1986' A copy of this is held in the Harris Community History Library Preston reference J/2/PRE
