About the memorial: A polished, black, granite, squat obelisk, with coloured RAF badge, set on a square plinth with etched drawings of warplanes, badges and dedication on its front and names on its side all in gold. A tapered obelsik sitting on a plinth and base on a concrete slabbed area, the Royal Air Force crest is on face 1 of the obelisk, the inscription and various unit badges and aircraft depictions are on all four faces of the plinth, all incised and picked out in gold and colours. There are two bench seats either side of the memorial, the whole being enclosed on three sides by a high wall, and with two short wall extensions either side at the front. There is a small dedicatory tablet set into the inside face of the south wall, to the front is a small garden, and, adjacent to the north wall a flagpole. On the outside walls of the wartime buildings just to the north of the memorial are a series of information boards dealing with the history of RAF Strubby up to, and including, the unveiling of the memorial.
