About the memorial: This kirk was originally Cruden Free Kirk and those named will be of that faith. Replacing an earlier kirk dating from the Disruption, it opened for worship on August 19th, 1885. The foundation stone was laid by the grandmother of media magnate, Rupert Murdoch. She was the wife of the minister, Rev. Murdoch. (c SWMP)It was closed some years ago and put up for sale but severely damaged in 2015 by a fire, though a photo in the local press (see link) seems to suggest that the war memorial on the front wall survived. Further enquiries by War Memorials Trust have established that the memorial is in the safe keeping of the council and will eventually be put back on display in the community centre.
