This tablet commemorates the gift by Gwilym C. James Esq., J.P., O.B.E., late of Llanwysg, of these castle grounds as an open public ground for the resort and recreation of adults and as a playground for children and youth residing in Crickhowell and Llangattwg, to perpetuate the memory of his son, Lieut. C.B.H. James, who fell on the 21st Novr. 1917, in the Battle of Cambrai in the Great War.
