About the memorial: A tapering stone built column with an elaborate cap topped by a shrouded bugle. The sides of the column have plain sections with dedications. It all rests on a two part plinth with a wreath on the upper part and names on the lower. It is set on a platform, with several stone bollards delineating its area, by the roadside.

On South elevation:- The West Riding [below the cap badge of the Duke of Wellington Regiment]. This Memorial was Erected by the People of Austerlands & District in Memory of the Men who Fought and Fell in the Great European War On West elevation:- To the Glorious Memory of the Men of Austerlands & District who Gave their Lives in the Cause of Liberty and Justice in the World War 1939-1945. On the East elevation:- The Blood of Heroes is the Seed of Freedom On the North elevation:- May their Reward be as Great as their Sacrifice.
