To the memory of Thomas Hylton Madden 2nd. lieutenant 1st. Kings Liverpool Regiment born 30th. April 1895, killed in action at Givenchy France 10th. March 1915 while leading his platoon in a charge on the German Trenches. He was the only son of the Venerable T.J. Madden, archdeacon of Liverpool and vicar of this church, 'Greater love hath no man than this - that a man lay down his life for his friends.' - St. John XV.13. This tablet is erected by the friends of the gallant young officer connected with the parish and congregation of Christ Church, Southport.
