About the memorial: Lt Maitland was the only son of the Speaker of the House of Keys. He was killed near Ypres in 1916. This is the plaque attached to the memorial hall (No 221944). The hall bears an inscription above the door indicating it was built in 1903 and is probably, therefore, a Boer War memorial. Isle of Man National Inventory of War Memorials: IOM_NIWM_BRA_00010_2.
