About the memorial: Captain Courtney was killed in action in Waziristan on 9 April 1937, serving with the 3rd Battalion, 16th Punjab Regiment. The memorial is recorded on the Isle of Man National Inventory of War Memorials: IOM_NIWM_CAS_00022 and has the Imperial War Museum reference 28190. NOTE: enquiries are ongoing with this memorial. It is definitely described as being in the old St Mary's Church (also known as the Garrison Church - for Castle Rushen - now being an office block) in both the IOM inventory and the IWM record. However, enquiries at the building in October 2017, despite a very helpful response, found no trace of it. The original church was decommissioned in 1985 and the congregation moved to "new" St Mary's church in Hope Street, known as "St Mary's on the Harbour". It is possible that the window was moved there. Enquiries continuing.
