In memory of J M Vallentin of the Prince Alberts 2nd Somersetshire Light Infantry who fell in action at Onverwacht on January 4th 1902. This tablet is erected as a mark of affection and esteem by the officers, non-commissioned officers and men of Vallentin's Heidelberg Volunteers which Corps he raised and of which he was the first commanding officer. 'We needs must love the highest when we see it'.
