About the memorial: Memorial is dedicated to those from Staffordshire County who lost their lives during the First and Second World War, Gulf War, Kuwait and other conflicts of the last 200 years Four-stepped base surmounted by two plinths and a column. This is surmounted by figures of an angel with an olive branch and a horse figure of an angel stands beside horse. Staffordshire knot on front face of pedestal.On each of the 4 sides are 2 carved regimental badges, eg Royal Army Veterinary Corps and the Royal Engineers see photos Leonard Stanford Merrifield FRBS (Sculptor) W R COLTON RA (Sculptor) Unveiled : 1923 PEDESTAL AND FIGURES REPAIRED 1996/ Rededicated : August 1997 Attached to the memorial and to the inside of the surrounding wall are more plaques and tablets added over the years At the outside corners of the perimeter wall are carved the names of places where British Forces saw action. There may well be more names in the area facing the railway station, but the area is very overgrown with ivy. Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
