About the memorial: A free standing granite Celtic cross with panels at either side detailing those who lost their lives in WW1, WW2 and Korea. Originally in the grounds of the Miners' Welfare Hall, moved due to vandalism. It is between the west wall of the Cemetery Chapel and Cemetery Road, near the junction of Shakespeare Street. WW2 names are on bronze plaques. This memorial needs re-photographing as it was significantly revised in 2015- 4 further WW1 names were added at that time and, supposedly, further names have been added since

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

On the pedestal- IN/MEMORY OF/THOSE OF THIS VILLAGE/WHO DIED IN THE GREAT WAR/1914-1918/ALSO/1939-1945; Left Hand Rear Plaque-[2 names]; New Tablet Left Hand Side- [WW1 names A to Lewins]; New Tablet Right Hand Side- Column 1-[WW1 names Lloyd to A Sinclair]; Column 2-[WW1 names W Sinclair to Young]/2nd Word War/[names Atkinson to Beeton and Houlger; Column 3-[WW2 names Brown to Young]/Korean War/[names]

The Korean War names are K Williams and J Worthington [oddly J Worthington's name was removed in 2015]
