About the memorial: Chapel in the apse dedicated to those members of the US forces and Commonwealth who fought during the Second World War. This incorporates an iron altar-rail. In the American Chapel at the east end of the Cathedral, behind the high Altar, a marble plinth supporting the American Roll of Honour from World War II, 1958. Plinth partially integral to steps on east side of High Altar; formed of three blocks of white marble, progressively smaller in size from base to top. Gilded dedicatory inscription incised on 6 o'clock face of plinth. Plinth surmounted by a brass case with bevelled glass at top and sides. Case contains the American Roll of Honour from World War II.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.
