About the memorial: The Norton-juxta-Kempsey war memorial is a freestanding structure on Church Road, Norton. Situated on the main road a short distance from St. James Church. The history of the Parish is very much based around the military, with Norton Barracks as the home of the Worcestershire Regiment from 1881 – 1962. Subsequently the Keep, a listed building, has been converted into residential accommodation. The roads surrounding the Barracks are named after the battle honours of the Regiment. The War Memorial is currently in poor condition, most of the wood has signs of woodworm and starting to rot, as can be seen on the photographs. We, the Parish Council, are hoping to secure a grant to replace and treat any wood that cannot be repaired, repair and treat any existing wood, clean the brick and area surrounding the memorial. The war memorial is seen by countless road users and very often visited by local schools, our regiment group and visitors.
