To the glory of God and in loving memory of the two sons of John Preston and Elizabeth Mary his wife, daughter of John Proctor of Longpreston. Thomas Haworth Preston, their younger son, Captain 1st. Battalion East Lancashire Regt. Fought in South Africa. Mentioned in despatches. Later he served in India and formed one of the Expeditionary Force to France in August 1914. He was present at the battles of Cateau, the Aisne, and the Marne and was killed in action by the Germans near Ploegsteert in Flanders the 17th November 1914 aged 33 years.
