About the memorial: Round blue plaque to mark the birth place of George Prowse, born 29th August 1898. He enlisted in the RNVR 1915 and served in the Drake Battalion of the 63rd Royal Naval Division in Gallipoli and France. Following serious wounds, George took part in the Allied Advance to Victory in August 1918 and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for bravery and leadership. He was later awarded the Victoria Cross for disregard of personal danger and inspirational leadership, but was later killed on 27th Sep 1918 and never received his medal. His name is also listed on Swansea War Memorial.
