War Memorials Trust case: War Memorials Trust needs to avoid Contributors changing location/description details as we help to protect and conserve this war memorial through our casework. Status: Unknown
Type: Non freestanding
Location: Internal
Setting: Inside a building - public/private
Description: Board/Plaque/ Tablet
Materials:
  • Metal Bronze
Conflicts:
  • First World War (1914-1918)
About the memorial: Pair of ornate sandstone gate piers, surmounted by lamps (now lost) and each bearing a bronze plaque commemorating those fallen during the First World War. Plaques are 2 feet 2 inches high x 1 foot 3 inches wide, with a raised patterned border round each with the letters standing proud. The names are listed in two columns on each plaque, sub-divided into groups by year. Both dedications and names are in elaborate capitals throughout. In 2010 one of the plaques was stolen; a replacement was made and both this and the surviving original plaque were relcoated - possibily inside the building, next to another memorial commemorating former pupils killed in the First World War.
