About the memorial: inside the church on the right hand wall is a small group of items commemorating this person. There is a NOWY headed polished red sandstone tablet with gold painted incised letters, a photograph and a metal plaque about the giving of the memorial below. NB there is a second memorial inside the Civic Centre, Wolverhampton where it is included in a wooden framework housing the book of remembrance.

IN HONOURED MEMORY OF/ PETTY OFFICER/ ALFRED EDWARD SEPHTON VC, RN,/ WHO WAS POSTHUMOUSLY AWARDED THE/ VICTORIA CROSS/ FOR CONSPICUOUS BRAVERY ABOARD/ H.M.S. COVENTRY/ IN ACTION OFF THE COAST OF CRETE/ ON 18TH MAY 1941./ BORN 19TH APRIL 1911. on the brass plaque it says "This tablet was the gift of Miss Dorothy Helen Pratt/and was dedicated on the 15th May 1982.The Victoria Cross is in the keeping of /the Treasury in Coventry cathedral. Our gratitude towards the brave, a hero's glory, lives beyond the grave."
