About the memorial: THREE LIGHT STAINED GLASS WINDOW WITH STONE DEDICATORY PLAQUE BENEATH SINGLE STANDING FIGURE IN EACH LIGHT OF THE WINDOW, ALL WITH SWORDS. SUN ABOVE THE THREE FIGURES WITH RAYS OF LIGHT REACHING DOWN TO THEM. SIX SHIELDS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LEFT AND RIGHT PANELS OF THE WINDOW AND IN THE MIDDLE A WOODEN CROSS WITH CHARLES MERCER NAIRNE ON THE HORIZTONAL SECTION OF THE CROSS.

THE WINDOW ABOVE THIS INSCRIPTION WAS GIVEN TO CALNE CHURCH/ BY HENRY 5TH MARQUESS OF LANSDOWNE AND MAUD EVELYN HIS WIFE/ TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND TO THE MEMORY OF THEIR BELOVED SON/ CHARLES GEORGE FRANCES MERCER-NAIRNE/ MAJOR 1ST ROYAL DRAGOONS/ WHO WAS KILLED IN ACTION OCTOBER 30TH 1914/ IN HIS 41ST YEAR/ NEAR YPRES IN BELGIUM WHERE HIS BODY RESTS./ 'NOT IN VAIN NOT UNHONOURED NOT FORGOTTEN THEY GAVE UP THEIR LIVES'
