About the memorial: Wall mounted, landscape orientated metal plaque, Engraved inscription filled with white paint. Sergeant J. Lord was Observer in 405 (Royal Canadian Air Force) Squadron Wellington Z8344 LQ-F that had departed Pocklington at 2222 for Ops Stettin on 19 September 1941 The aircraft was engaged by 1/Res Flak Abt 525, 2/Res Flak Abt 247 and 1/Flak Lehr und Versuchbatterie Rerik, hit and shot down The crew all bailed out to become POW's. The aircraft crashed near Heilingenhafen at 0410 During the closing stages of the war on 19 April 1945 the by now promoted in captivity Warrant Officer Lord and a fellow crew member were amongst a column of POW’s being moved across Germany in the Long March In a tragic case of mis-identification, a number of RAF Typhoons strafed the column thinking they were German Troops. A number of POW’s were killed with many more injured. Warrant Officer Lord DoI in Hospital on 22 April 1945
