Status: On subsequent site(s)
Type: Freestanding
Location: External
Setting: Roadside
Description: Latin cross
Materials:
  • Stone Stone (any)
Conflicts:
  • First World War (1914-1918)
About the memorial: Re-erected cross. Medieval crosshead and part of shaft, re-erected on later base. Brecchia. Tapering chamfered shaft and crosspiece. Masson Phillips states that the cross was brought from a garden in Shillingford Abbot, a hamlet connected with Torre Abbey. After a period of time in the churchyard it was re-erected on its present site as a war memorial. The cross was restored in 1927 when it was dedicated by the Archdeacon of Exeter as a First World War memorial. A previous contributor had linked this cross to IWM Register 72380. This is incorrect as that link applies to Peamore House WMO 236514.
