About the memorial: 207 Sqn Manchester L7523 EM-M had departed Bottesford at 1735 for Ops Hamburg on 14/01/42, having already been delayed due to an unknown technical fault. It attempted to catch-up with the rest of the Sqn over the North Sea, however the time of flight and speed of the Manchester didn't allow for it to have reached Hamburg. It is probable that it only reached the Dutch Frisian Islands before returning home, either after sustaining enemy damage or more likely a mechanical failure The aircraft crashed at Mill Hill, near Cliff House Farm, S of the village of Holmpton at 2044. Witnesses saw the aircraft with its Port Engine on fire and flames extending beyond its tail before it exploded on impact. All the crew were killed Rectangular plaque set in a cobble-stone plinth, mounted on a V-shaped paving area. The plinth is in the form of the tail of an aeroplane. An information board is mounted behind the plinth.
