About the memorial: Large, black marble, nowy-headed plaque with white marble tomb in relief above which are naval symbols in relief supporting an urn.Below centre is family crest.Berkeley died from small pox whilst commanding his ship.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

To the Memory of the Hon'ble Captain William Berkeley (Second Son of William Lord Berkeley of Stratton) who died Commander of his Majesty's Ship HMS the Tyger, in his passage from the Coast of Guinea to the West Indies, on the 25th March 1733, in the 33rd year of his age & was buried in the Ocean. Just, Generous, Steady, Intrepid, Gentle. Loved, honoured and Lamented by his Friends. Eminently distinguished in his profession.Still serving his Country by his Example. This monument was erected in the year 1749 by his most Affectionate Brother John Lord Berkeley of Stratton.
