About the memorial: There is a square plinth at the bottom rising to a column with a gun and sword carved into the front then is topped by a wreathed ball at the top with 1914-1919 on a shield. The church was fenced off as unsafe when visited but the memorial is outside the fence. The Island is still controlled by the MOD but is possible to get on to it at various times.
