In memory of Lawrence Crowden N. Metford Ensign in H.M. 6th Regt. of Foot. Died 26th February 1852 Aged 29. He was drowned in the Birkenhead off Cape Danger, South Africa in the execution of his duty when proceeding to join his Regiment then engaged in the Caffre War. "I am the resurrection and the life. He that believeth in Me though he were dead yet shall he live". St. John XI. 25.
