TO THE MEMORY / OF / NURSING SISTER / EMILY STANLEY OWEN / (ARMY NURSING SERVICE RESERVE) / THE YOUNGER DAUGHTER OF / THE VICAR OF THIS PARISH. / BORN MAY 15 1875. / DIED JANY. 25 1901 / HAVING RECEIVED HER THREE YEARS TRAINING AT / THE DERBYSHIRE ROYAL INFIRMARY SHE VOLUNTEERED / FOR SERVICE IN THE SOUTH AFRICAN WAR. / SHE LEFT / ENGLAND ON AUG. 18 1900 AND BECAME ATTACHED TO / THE HOSPITAL SERVICE AT / GERMISTON TRANSVAAL / WHERE IN THE MIDST OF HER HAPPY WORK SHE WAS ACCIDENTALLY DROWNED. / THIS MEMORIAL IS ERECTED BY THE PARISHIONERS / AND CONGREGATION OF / S.
