About the memorial: A round wooden memorial plaque to George Bingley Allen RN.

George Bingley Allen was born on 2 September 1920 at Sutterton, the son of Ted and Annie Allen, of Sleaford, Lincolnshire. He was a telegraphist on the destroyer HMS Veteran; on 26 September 1942 the ship was attacked and sunk by the German U-boat U-404, under the command of Otto von Bülow. Allen was killed, aged 22, along with the ship's commander, eight officers and 150 other ratings.
