About the memorial: When Canford Heath estate was built in the 1960s and 1970s, the streets in part of it were named after WW2 pilots, together with a pub called The Pilot. See separate entry for this. Starting in 2015 an extension to this estate was built, the whole called Cornelia Gardens after a 19th century Lady Wimborne who was a local benefactress, but the roads and closes in this area were named after WW1 pilots including Mick Mannock and A H Whistler.
