About the memorial: This plaque is on the inside wall of the church, just to the right of the entrance to the First World War Memorial Chapel, which was dedicated in honour of St George in 1919. The plaque was unveiled by the Bishop of Oxford on Sunday 25 April 1920. It depicts St George (the Warrior Saint) in armour, holding a tall shield with a red cross. To his right are the names of the 61 men of St Barnabas's parish who died in the First World War. They read across the two columns from left to right, with the 5th Earl of Ross spread across both columns, and two additions added out of alphabetical order at the end. It
