About the memorial: This memorial is sited in the foyer of the town's Police station and is located on a wall beneath another plaque dedicated to another Police Constable whom died whilst on traffic patrol. It is a brass plaque and dedicated to one soldier, Thomas Davies, whom joined the Welsh Guards shortly after the formation of the regiment in February 1915, was a serving Police Constable upon enlistment. Like many Police Officers at the time, Thomas answered the call to arms and unfortunately as with large numbers of his former colleagues, died on the field of battle. Thomas met his end advancing on German lines at the Battle of Loos on 27th September 1915. His body was never recovered and he has no known grave. He is named on the Loos memorial.
