Stained glass window
- First World War (1914-1918)
About the memorial:
This memorial was entered onto War Memorials Online as being in St Mary's Church, Loders, Dorset. I spent a long time looking for it, to no avail. However, the IWM Register revealed that it is in fact in Sussex. The error presumably arose from the similarity of the memorial name and the name of the Dorset village.
STAINED GLASS WINDOW WITH TWO LIGHTS SEPARATED BY A STONE MULLION. DEDICATORY WHITE MARBLE TABLET BELOW WITH ELABORATELY CARVED BORDER. INSCRIPTION IN BLACK LETTERING IN THE LEFT LIGHT IS THE FIGURE OF SIR ROBERT OF KNARESBOROUGH STANDING ABOVE A VIEW OF ST ROBERT'S CHAPEL. IN THE RIGHT LIGHT IS THE FIGURE OF KING RICHARD THE LIONHEART STANDING ABOVE A VIEW OF GAZA.
