About the memorial: This is a small enclosure approximately 10 metres across, encircled by a wall of limestone blocks laid in courses, surmounted by mortared upright capstones. The enclosure is situated approximately 1 kilometre from the nearest metalled road (parking for cars at Renscombe Farm). It is immediately adjacent to the South West Coast Path, overlooking Chapman's Pool and the Jurassic Coast, about 1.5 kilometres north of the National Coastwatch Institution's St. Aldhelm's Head Lookout Station. The enclosure contains a small garden and rockery, a table and benches made of cast concrete mounted on limestone bases, plus the memorial plaques and inscriptions. Entrance to the enclosure is effected via a stile of limestone through-stones, guarded on the right by a tall limestone pillar. Built by the Dorset Branch of the Royal Marines Association (since re-named the Poole and District Branch) in 1990, it pays tribute to the members of the Corps who have been killed since 1945. There is a special mention of those who died in the Falklands, in the Middle and Far East, in Northern Ireland and those who perished in the IRA bombing at the Royal Marines School of Music in Deal. As well as bearing the Corps crest and motto 'Per Mare Per Terram (By Sea By Land)', the site also bears a message to passing walkers and those that come to pay their respects. It reads: 'Rest awhile and reflect that we who are living can enjoy the beauty of the sea and countryside.'
