About the memorial: A restored roll of honour dedicated to industrial workers who fought in the Second World War has been given pride of place at a Black Country library. The 150-name wooden memorial lists each member of staff from the Steel Nut & Joseph Hampton Ltd, Woden Works, Wednesbury who fought in the war, including seven who never returned from battle. The spruced up gold coloured board was unveiled at Wednesbury Library. Rectangular dark timber board with gold lettering and coloured decoration embraced by a gold painted decorative scroll Additional information supplied by Peter Cartwright 22nd July 2022. My father, Leonard Cartwright, worked for Steel Nut and Joseph Hampton before and during the second World War. The directors wanted to honour the men who fought and commissioned my father to prepare plans and execute the memorial plaque. He had the original plaque made by the pattern shop at the Woden works and he painted and then inscribed the names. I have his original ideas and drawings for the memorial. Anyone interested in seeing the drawings please get in touch and I will photograph them and email them to you. plcartwright@hotmail.com
