Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

ON PLAQUE AT BASE OF CROSS: IN MEMORY OF/ THE CREW OF J.U.88 DX+AX 13NJ63/ (NAMES)/ ALSO IN MEMORY OF/ (NAMES)/ WHO DIED ON THIS SPOT, THE RESULT OF A WARTIME AIRCRAFT CRASH/ THE FUTILITY OF WAR, 4TH MARCH 1945, NOW SAFE IN GODS HANDS. FURTHER PLAQUE TO ONE SIDE: SITE OF A WARTIME AIRCRAFT CRASH, JU88C NIGHT FIGHTER OF THE 13TH /N.J. 63, AIRCRAFT NO. WNR 627585 DX+AX, WHICH CRASHED INTO DUNNINGTON LODGE FARM, KILLING THE CREW OF FOUR, AND MR & MRS ELLEN MOLL AND MRS VIOLET MOLL. THE CRASH TOOK PLACE AT 01.51 HRS, 4TH MARCH 1945. THIS J.U.88 IS BELIEVED TO BE THE LAST LUFTWAFFE AIRCRAFT LOST OVER THE U.K. ON A NIGHT SORTIE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS TURNING TOWARDS R.A.F. ELVINGTON AT LOW LEVEL, HIT A TREE AND CRASHED INTO THE FARMHOUSE. PRIOR TO THE CRASH THE JU88 HAD SHOT DOWN TWO HALIFAX BOMBERS LANDING AT R.A.F.LISSETT. AFTER OPERATIONS OVER GERMANY, MR ARTHUR TAIT, REAR GUNNER OF THE HALIFAX WAS WOUNDED IN THE ATTACK. ON THE 19TH JUNE 1993 THE CROSS WAS DEDICATED TO THOSE WHO DIED. A WREATH WAS LAID BY HERR HERBERT THOMAS OF THE LUFTWAFFE NIGHT FIGHTER ASSOCIATION AND MR ARTHUR TAIT OF THE DONCASTER AIR GUNNERS ASSOCIATION, BRINGING TOGETHER OLD WARTIME ENEMIES IN FRIENDSHIP AND SHOWING THE FUTILITY OF WAR.
