About the memorial: A Latin cross surmounting a tapering column, octagonal plinth and two-stepped base. The symbols of the four leading British colonies are carved just below the cross and the British emblems of the Rose, Leek, Thistle and Shamrock at the base of the column. A raised inscription is carved into the front of of the lower plinth and tablets are fitted to six upper plinths faces [four WW1 and two WW2].
