About the memorial: The memorial is an RAF Squadron Crest mounted on a wooden plaque, below which is a brass plaque mounted on timber. This is in the chancel on the left side of the arch. The badge of 57 Squadron is Issuant from two logs fesse-wise in saltire a demi phoenix. The badge commemorates the fact that during the First World War, on one occasion the whole of the flying personnel became casualties within a few days, but the squadron remained in action with new personnel. Below this is the motto: Corpus non animum muto ("I change my body not my spirit"). On the incised brass plaque is the inscription

57 (Cheltenham) Squadron R.F.C. formed in Copmanthorpe on 8 June 1916. In memory of the members of the squadron who gave their lives in two world wars.
