About the memorial: inside the church, this is an oval white incised plaque attached to a black background where there are 4 white stone roses in each corner then a white upper and lower trim. this is a second family plaque in the town with the other in St Martins church ref WMO253705.

In memory of Mr Robert Carruthers, Surgeon RN and thirty years practitioner in this borough who died May 21 1789 aged 81 years. Also Mrs Isabella A Carruthers, wife of the above who dies Feb 26 1796 aged 39 years. Their remains are deposited in the church of St Martin with four infant children. Also Capt Ned Carruthers R M who was drowned in his Majesty’s ship Invincible off Yarmouth on March 17 1901 aged 36 years. Likewise Lieut Charles Lawson Carruthers who died in Antigua Sept 28 1804 aged 19 years. And Capt Walter Stirling Carruthers RM who died in his Majesty’s ship Rodney June 13 1810 aged 20 Year. Sons of the above.
