About the memorial: A sandstone pillar surmounted by a small oak canopied crucifix and mounted on a square sandstone pedestal and three stepped base. The tapered pillar has chamfered arisses terminating just above the base. The top two steps of the base are hexagonal in plan and the lower step is deeper, irregular in plan, and has the incised inscription in upright capital block lettering on the front faces. Metal plaques have been added to three faces of the pedestal and have the incised inscription in upright capital block lettering coloured white. The memorial was moved from its original position about 50 metres to the Northwest, near the junction of Swanwick Hill and The Green. This was to facilitate maintenance of the churchyard and to improve access to the memorial during memorial services. Unknown date: Metal plaques were added to the stone pedestal. c1990: The crucifix was replaced March 2011: The pillar had a slight chip at the head of the 6 o'clock face. The incised inscription on the base was slightly eroded and had small patches of dense moss growth in parts, making it difficult to read. The metal plaques had become discoloured and were also difficult to read in parts
