About the memorial: The memorial is a shrine built of stone, timber and tile located at the west end of the church. The shrine contains the Battlefield Cross erected in France for the Earl. This cross was made from the timbers of a blitzed farmhouse near where the Earl was killed. There is a bronze plaque with the dedication attached to the stone wall at the back of the shrine.
